His Vision - CFBC Tribute Mural
'His Vision’
Clarence Fitzroy Bryant is a historical figure in the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. He was the driving force behind the revolution of universal tertiary education that we relish today. It was, in my opinion, only fair that I paint this mural in his honor.
Concept
Fitzroy Bryant is the focal point in this mural. The side profile was intentionally created for the observer to gaze into the school with Mr. Bryant, gazing, as he once did, at what was and now is, ‘His Vision’.
Sepia overlays speak to black excellence. In his sunglasses, which was his signature look, is an indistinct silhouette of the college. In his left and right lens are the college's entrance and the college's fountain respectively. That aspect of the mural symbolizes the vision he had for tertiary level education in this twin island federation.
Emerging from the back of Mr. Bryant’s head is a warped image of the college. This is to symbolize how ‘His Vision’ sprung from a conceptualized dream to a real institution. The warped image indicates the passing of time and the various developmental phases that the institution has undergone. The steps of the school lead outward as a part of his shirt and into the school's fountain, illustrating evolution.
The vintage clock, left side of the mural, symbolizes the knowledge gained by every student exposed to ‘His Vision’, whilst highlighting the passing of time as represented by the warp. Nineteen ninety-six [1996], in roman numerals, represent the year the college's name transitioned from 'The College of Further Education' to 'Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College'.
The brown pelican in flight, right side of the mural, exhibits patriotism as it is the national bird of St. Kitts and Nevis. It also represents all students who are now able to soar like birds, to higher heights on the wings of knowledge gained at this institute.
As a former student of this institute, I am sincerely grateful to the revolutionary, Clarence Fitzroy Bryant for ‘His Vision’. It has allowed all deserving students who pass through the walls of this institution, leading each, who dare to dream, into their own vision for their future. I can ensure that those dreamers will strive for nothing but excellence as they observe this monument, for it will evoke a new sense of pride amongst them. As such, it is with great honor and privilege that I present this educational monument ‘His Vision’.
