Sasha, The Artist

About

Sasha Herbert, better known as ‘that’ Sasha, The Artist, is the 27-year-old Artrepreneur that dreamt of enhancing an overlooked industry in St. Kitts & Nevis, the visual arts industry, through well needed edu-tainment. In 2017, that dream became a reality.

Art has always been a part of Sasha’s life; from designing popsicle stick houses as a youth during the summers to creating realistic acrylic portraits inspired by her island’s vibrant Kitti-Nevi culture. However, being recognized as one of St. Kitts’ Most Remarkable Teens in Art 2012 was just the beginning of her official career as an artist.

From that point on, she created special paintings for people and business, painted live at various events for audiences to admire and have displayed and sold pieces at various exhibitions nationally. Her accolades continued when she got the amazing opportunity to represent St. Kitts & Nevis at Carifesta XIV in Trinidad and Tobago at their Across Borders Exhibition for regional artists and at St. Kitts Nevis High Commission Virtual Art Exhibition in 2020.

Sasha attended the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College and completed her Associates in Arts Science & General Studies, Art of which she was most victorious as she received “Most Outstanding Performance” in CAPE Visual Arts in 2013 & 2014. Upon her departure, she mounted an educational painting titled ‘His Vision’, her CAPE internal assessment, inspired by whom the college was named after in the college’s library; the first of the kind and can still be seen beautifully displayed at the college's campus.

At 21 years old, Sasha saw a need to diversify our crowded weekend entertainment scene and so, she launched Paint & Sip with Sasha, The Artist in 2017 , a unique experience of painting, cocktails and socialising for intimate groups on weeknights. As the first paint and sip brand in the federation, she proved that this entertainment was needed by being able to cater to approximately five hundred (500) guests within her first year and as such, she was awarded as one of OECS 30 under 30 entrepreneurs in the region for her successful entrepreneurial efforts.

In 2020, Sasha expanded into the academic realm and launched Sasha, The Artist Art Academy, an after-school program that exposes students to various technical art skills in drawing, painting and sculpting. This launch was a result of her fostering her own creativity as a child because her primary school did not offer visual arts classes. Unfortunately, out of the twenty-six public schools nationwide, there was, and still is, no visual arts subjects being provided to cater to our creative children and she wanted our creative children to have an outlet to foster their talent.

Sasha’s long term goal is to become a successful and easily recognizable visual artist from her portfolio of works, but still wants to inspire others along her journey. By exposing her students to various technical art skills and encouraging them to develop a deeper passion for their work and inspiring their parents to explore their creative side in social environments, she’s paving the way for the next generation of artists with homes that will nurture their talents and future art careers.
